Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
Improve the appearance of your eyes and rejuvenate your look.
The loose skin over your eyes and the fat bags under your eyes make you look tired and older than you feel inside. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. Your eyes are the first thing people see when they meet you. Did you know that people form a permanent lasting impression of you in the first few minutes of meeting you? Would you like to look more youthful and refreshed?
Each year thousands of women and men choose eyelid surgery to help restore a more youthful and energetic appearance. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty pouches beneath the eyes and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids. More advanced techniques of blepharoplasty can even reduce the dark cicles and shadows from below the eyes.
Are you a candidate?
Both men and women are equally good candidates. There are no racial or ethnic limitations for candidates, but most patients are older than 35 years. However, you might consider blepharoplasty at a younger age if droopy eyelids and puffy bags under your eyes run in your family. Generally, the following symptoms are address through blepharoplasty:
- Baggy or puffy upper eyelids
- Excess skin on lower eyelids
- Dark circles or bags under eyes
Procedure Description
Blepharoplasty (BLEF-uh-ro-plas-te), is usually done in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. Your surgeon injects numbing medication into your eyelids and administers intravenous (IV) medication to make you relax. The surgeon removes excess folds of skin in the upper lids and pouches under the eyes (lower lids).
Recovery
The surgery usually takes one to three hours, depending on the amount and location of tissue being removed. Afterward you spend time in a recovery room, where nurses and their assistants monitor you for complications.
